Contrary to popular belief, falls are not inevitable for the elderly. Some risk factors for falls are relatively easy to change and, where falls occur, the severity of injuries can be reduced.
Maintaining a safe home environment is a key element in remaining independent at home. Half of falls occur in people’s own homes, so just because you’re familiar with the environment, doesn’t mean it’s always safe.
