International Women's Day 2024

08 March 2024

1 Count Her In

Today is International Women’s Day (IWD), which is a day to reflect on progress, to call for change and to celebrate the courage and determination of the women who changed history, and those who will advance gender equality into the future.

This year’s IWD theme ‘Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate progress’ focuses on supporting greater economic inclusion for women and girls everywhere, and ensuring women and girls are given equal opportunity to build their capabilities and strengthen their capacity to learn, earn and lead.

This will help reduce poverty and increase economic growth.
Providing flexible work hours and opportunities to work remotely where possible are key strategies to remove obstacles for women in community participation, enabling them to balance professional and personal responsibilities. This accommodation promotes inclusivity, allowing everyone to contribute actively while accommodating diverse schedules and situations. For me, women’s economic empowerment is the ability for women to navigate, participate in & have access to equal distribution of resources, job opportunities, services, education & skills development. It’s important for equal rights, identifying & reducing gender pay gaps, and to recognise, respect, reduce & redistribute unpaid care work. It supports gender responsive planning in all environments. Ultimately, I am the boss of my life & I am empowered to choose how I live it!
