Our Smile Squad is on the road again!
08 November 2021
It was smiles all around as our Box Hill Smile Squad team headed back out to local schools last week.
After suspending outreach dental services during lockdown, the team are excited to resume visits to schools to provide dental care to primary and secondary students in our region.
“Our Smile Squad team is thrilled to be able to visit local schools again. Good oral health is an important part of a child’s overall health and wellbeing, and our outreach services support children to develop healthy dental habits for life," said Deb Miller, General Manager Clinical, Community & Oral Health Services.
Oral Health Therapists in the Smile Squad team are trained to check teeth, provide treatments, and offer preventative care and oral health coaching. Dental Assistants work within the team to perform administrative tasks and prepare students for examinations and treatment.
healthAbility is currently servicing 26 schools in phase one of the Smile Squad program. We have two Smile Squad teams based at Box Hill, and have expanded the program to Eltham, which currently has one team. More staff are currently being recruited to our Eltham team, who are looking forward to starting visits to local schools in the near future.
