Today is National Close the Gap Day - 16 March 2023. The burden of disease for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is 2.3 times that of Non-Indigenous Australians, with a life expectancy approximately 8 years less than non-Indigenous Australians (Sources: Department of Health and Ageing 2021, Australian Bureau of Statistics 2015-17 report).
Close the Gap is a First Nations-led, social justice campaign that aims to achieve equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by increasing health, social, educational, and economic outcomes by 2030. The National Close the Gap Day (NCTGD) is a day of action to pledge support, and support health equality for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as a fundamental right for all.As a community health organisation, we exist to provide equitable access to health and wellbeing services for all and support the need for health equality for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
