Men's Shed Whitehorse

The healthAbility Men’s Shed, located in Whitehorse, provides an opportunity for men to get together and work on projects in a supportive workshop environment. Each week our ‘Shedders’ participate in activities matched to their strengths, skills and interests.

Projects constantly evolve but may include:

  • Woodworking either on individual projects or joint projects

  • Local community projects usually by special request

  • Gardening, maintenance and growing vegetables seasonally

  • Computers workshops for learning new skills, searching the internet or playing games

  • General chit chat and socialising

  • Sustainability projects

  • The occasional outing to places of interest

Who can attend the Men’s Shed in Whitehorse?

“The Men’s Shed has made a huge contribution to my life. It has provided invaluable friendships and helped me overcome my isolation.” – John, Shedder

The Men’s Shed participants come from all different backgrounds and walks of life. One of the major benefits of attending the shed is getting an opportunity to connect with others in a social environment. For some, the social aspect of the Shed has positively impacted their mental health. It’s also a great way for men to keep using their skills and knowledge after retirement and to contribute to their community.

Some of the Shedders are

  • Wanting to brush up on rusty skills or learn new ones

  • Are keen to get together with others who share similar interests

  • Are recovering from illness or rehabilitation

  • Are living with a disability or long term illness

  • Are the primary care of their partner or other family member

  • People who have an aged, disability pension or other

Some participants may be able to use the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) for the Men's Shed, this will be discussed at time of booking.
