Protecting our community with safe disposal

Our Needle and Syringe program (NSP) provides safe disposal of used syringes for all members of the public. For people who inject drugs we offer a confidential service including free information, needles and syringes, disposal containers, swabs and condoms as part of our commitment to harm minimisation. The service is operated in a friendly, practical and non-judgemental manner.

Who would use this service?

  • You are administering prescribed medication via a syringe and require a place for safe disposal of sharps containers
  • You are someone who injects drugs and wishes to look after your health and reduce the potential harms associated with injecting
  • You are wanting to access free contraception, information and advice on sexual health
  • You are interested in your health and that of family and friends, and would like information and advice on topics such as the effects of drugs, treatment and support, and safer injecting
  • You are wanting to access a referral for free Naloxone, and information on overdose prevention and response

What we provide?

A confidential and anonymous service, providing free –

  • Needles, syringes, swabs and disposal containers
  • Safe sex items (e.g.: female and male condoms, dams and lubricant)
  • Safe disposal of used injecting equipment
  • Education or safer drug and general health
  • Referral to other services as requested, including to participating pharmacies for free Naloxone

Free packs are available at our NSP on ground floor will assist with any enquiries. Items such as filters and wheel filters are available at the Box Hill reception desk at cost price.

Concerned about overdose?
If responding to an overdose emergency, please call 000 immediately.

Naloxone medication is available free for anyone in the community at risk of opioid overdose and their carers. Naloxone nasal spray or injectable medication temporarily reverses overdose caused by drugs such as Heroin, Oxycodone, Fentanyl or Morphine.
