Everyone in our communities deserves to have access to safe and clean shower facilities.

That’s why healthAbility and Aligned Leisure have partnered to launch the Shower Access Service.

This service provides free access to showers for people in our communities who are homeless, couch surfing, or who don’t have a permanent place to live.

Having regular access to showers is important for a person’s health, hygiene and dignity, and can also significantly improve feelings of self-confidence and self-worth.

How does the service work?

People who want to use the Shower Access Service can collect a Shower Access Pass from healthAbility at 917 Main Rd Eltham, between 9am-5pm Monday to Friday.

They can then access free showers at two locations:

  • Eltham Leisure Centre:
    40 Brougham Street, Eltham
    Phone: 9439 2266
    Open Mon-Fri 5:30am-10pm, Sat and Sun 7am-8pm

  • Diamond Creek Community Centre:
28 Main Hurstbridge Road, Diamond Creek
    Phone: 9438 5299
    Open Mon-Thurs 6:00am- 9:30pm, Friday 6am-7pm, Sat 8-6pm and Sun 9-5pm

People will need to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a valid exemption at these locations before using shower facilities, and follow check-in requirements in line with government guidelines.

When people collect a Shower Access Pass from healthAbility they will be encouraged to connect with healthAbility’s mental health services, including our Psychosocial Support Service (PSS) delivered in partnership with Wellways.

Psychosocial support can assist people with severe mental health issues who are not supported by the NDIS to participate in their community, manage daily tasks, secure stable employment or housing and connect with family and friends.
